102 men and one woman who died serving in the Great War are being added to the town’s Roll of Honour. They were missed off the original list for various reasons – such as family moving away – but are now being recognised as they deserve. Andy Wade and his team at Men of Worth Project CIC have worked so hard to research the lives and deaths of the 103 Keighlians, who you can read about upstairs at Keighley Library following an official launch this morning. The biographies will be on display until December 5.
Cllr Firth gave a reference to help Men of Worth get funding for this project from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Keighley Town Council has also given some grant funding, while Bradford Council is hosting the exhibition and the archives team has helped immensely too.
She was honoured to have been part of a review panel that decided whether the 103 people fit the criteria to go on the Roll of Honour. It was moving, tragic and humbling to read all the stories.
Everyone in Keighley should visit this exhibition.
